Finding Inspiration And Motivation For Your Blog
No matter how much bloggers love to write and have a passion for the topics we write about, at times it gets difficult to get the momentum going to keep our blogs fresh and current. It is like entering a black hole and we can’t seem to find inspiration and motivation for the blog anylonger. For some writers this writing block goes on for weeks and months, and they will eventually stop writing all together.
I have also felt the lack of motivation at times, but have discovered some tools which works well for me to get going. Hopefully they will work for you as well.
Stick To Writing On A Daily Basis
Make writing a daily habit. Set a specific time every day when you sit down to write and stick to it. Some days the content is not great and not worth publishing, but don’t cast it aside. You can rewrite it later on. Some days it may only amount to 10 lines, but it is still better than nothing. It is said, that you need to do something 28 times, or for 28 days, to make it a habit. So, when you hit a writer’s block, still sit down and write something every day for 28 days. Trust me, after 28 days it will be easy for you to keep going. And the more you write and the more content you have, the easier it will be to find more topics to write about and ideas will seem to come more easily.
So my advice is, ignore your writer’s block and keep on writing. Write about everything and nothing, and you will soon get your creative drive back.
And to quote Charles Bukowski: Writing about a Writer’s Block is better than not writing at all.
Read Other Blogs
You probably have a few favorite blogs which you read regularly. When getting stuck, I suggest that you read at least two new blogs every day. I generally find it super inspiring to read other blogs, and the more I read the more motivated I become to work on my own. Try to implement what you like about other blogs into your own. Sometimes it just takes a few new and fresh ideas to get back on track.
Interact With Other Bloggers
Go to your favorite blogs and interact with the bloggers. Comment on their posts. Ask specific questions to the bloggers. Ask for their feedback on your own blog. Most of the bloggers I interact with are extremely helpful. We have all felt the Writer’s Block now and then. A few encouraging words from bloggers you admire will help regaining your own motivation.
Give Your Blog A Makeover
Perhaps your blog needs an all new design to get you inspired again? Or you can get new plugins and tools to spark your interest? Or maybe it is time to move its focus in a new direction? Perhaps you have been blogging mainly about fitness, but you have now become more interested in healthy food? Or your blog focus has been strictly work oriented, but now it is time to go more personal? We fortunately keep growing and expanding our interests throughout life, and to keep our writing fresh, why not keep the blog growing and expanding with us? You certainly don’t need to stay on the topics you chose for your blog 3 years ago, it is ok to keep it moving forward.
These are some of the tools I use when feeling uninspired. I would love to hear your own tips for overcoming a writer’s block in comments below?
